THE STORY
Set in the vibrant, quirky, and turbulent neighborhood of the Sunset Junction area, in the early 1980s, the story follows Andres, a young Latino gay man from East LA who grapples with societal rejection and the harsh realities of his community. Determined to make a difference, Andres becomes an activist, fighting to unify the LGBTQ+ community, Latinos, and local gangs. While he enjoys one-night stands to cope with his loneliness, his life turns when he meets Donald, an African-American man, at a club.
Initially, Andres resists forming a deeper connection with Donald, fearing vulnerability and the complexities of interracial relationships in a prejudiced society. However, their bond grows beyond physical attraction as they spend more time together. Donald's unwavering support and shared experiences help Andres confront his fears and internalized biases. Together, they navigate the turbulent landscape of gang tensions and the burgeoning LGBT rights movement. As he strives to create a sense of belonging for his community, he bridges the divide between clashing groups, forming unexpected alliances to host the first Sunset Junction street fair—a daring symbol of unity that forces everyone, including himself, to confront their biases.

Donald becomes not just a lover but a steadfast friend and ally, helping Andres overcome crises and stand stronger in his fight for unity and acceptance.
